Our Cabinet Painting process

General cabinet painting services:

1. Uninstall cabinet doors and drawer faces to take to cabinet shop for spraying

2. Mask off entire kitchen and any doorways or other openings to contain overspray or overspray dust:this is only for the onsite spraying part of the project

3. Sand cabinets doors, drawer faces with 120-220 grit sandpaper using a Festool detail sander vacuum system to prepare cabinets to receive primer coat and collect all dust in the process:hand sand paper will be used for sanding the cabinets themselves

4. Use TSP and water to remove any grease or oil build up that would prevent proper cabinet adhesion

5. Prime cabinets with one coat of Ben Moore Fresh Start High Hiding Primer or Ben Moore Stix Bonding Primer followed by, (if stain issues arise) a thorough spot priming process using BIN PRIMER which is a SHELLAC based primer made specifically for extreme stain blocking. This in-depth priming process is in order to provide a solid base for maximum paint adhesion as well as to prevent the oils from the wood in the cabinets from bleeding through the paint causing an unwanted yellowing of the finish.

6.Sand cabinets doors, drawer faces and outer parts of the cabinets with 320 grit sandpaper using hand sandpaper before the final top coat

7. Finish paint with two coats of Sherwin Williams Gallery Series satin or semi gloss paint

8.Paint cabinet doors (inside and out) and drawer faces and sides with a fine finish sprayer application-using a Graco HVLP low pressure sprayer

9. Prime and paint outside of cabinets on site with a fine finish spray application one coat of primer two coats of paint-using a Graco HVLP low pressure sprayer and using the same sanding process as was used for the cabinet doors and drawer faces

10.Let cabinet doors, drawer faces and the outside of the cabinets have at least 24 hrs to properly dry before reinstallation
Reinstall cabinet doors and drawer faces
Do any necessary touch up after reinstall
We recommend light handling of the cabinets for a day after reinstall

11. Be prepared to be without full use of your kitchen for 3-5 days-we can remove the masking from the fridge and stove but otherwise the masking will need to remain until all the onsite spraying is completed

Additional considerations: Purchasing new cabinets and having them professionally installed is typically double the price of having them refinished. Furthermore painted cabinets done properly and taken care of well can last up to 8-10 years before needing to be done again.
